"Connecting the Dots in Toms River and Beyond"
Daniel R. Fagin
Dan Fagin, Professor of Journalism, is founder and director of the Science Communication Workshops at NYU and the director of the Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program, in which he teaches Environmental Reporting and Current Topics in Science, Health and Environmental Journalism.

Awarded the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction, Dan’s latest book, Toms River: A Story of Science and Salvation, is about the dumping of industrial pollution by chemical companies in Toms River, New Jersey beginning in 1952 through the 1980s, and the epidemiological investigations of a cancer cluster that subsequently emerged there. The decades-long drama culminated in 2001 with one of the largest legal settlements in the annals of toxic dumping. The book won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction and the 2014 National Academies Communication Award and the Society of Environmental Journalists’ Rachel Carson Book Award.

A reception and book signing will follow in the Gallery.
